WELCOME!
I consider myself very lucky to have had a musical upbringing as there was never really any other option than to sing. My memory of my tiny primary school is choir rehearsals and my large state secondary school had the most wonderful music department with multiple choirs, concerts and a fantastic singing teacher.
I went on to spend five years training as a singer at two of the best performance institutions in Europe. However, on graduating I still didn't know my path. I loved to sing but 8 shows a night didn't appeal to me. We had often taught at Saturday schools throughout college and I got a job teaching singing at a school in central London. I loved spending all day working with the voice, inspiring others to sing. This lead me to learn more about the anatomy of the voice and how to teach this to my students in a fun, practical way. I trained classically (that was what suited my voice the best!) but from studying vocal anatomy, it has enabled me to sing in a variety of styles. We have one voice and we can use it in so many ways....it's fascinating! I still perform professionally but I'm fortunate that I can choose my own projects and I love the joy of singing to an audience.
Over the years, I was noticing many of my students lacking confidence, holding back and therefore causing extra tension, or thinking about the voice as just their vocal cords. So I really started to focus on the voice as a whole instrument. Yes, I teach vocal technique but our vocal cords are tiny muscles, and they need help from our whole body! Not only that, but our mind plays a huge part in our ability to vocalise with freedom and ease. Every voice is individual and my approach to teaching each student is different. However, I believe a holistic approach has great results and enables a singer to find their true, unique voice.
