SINGING LESSONS

  • I teach from my home studio in Portslade (BN41 2TA). Many of my students come from Brighton, Hove, and across East Sussex, with excellent transport links making the studio easy to reach. The Number 1/1X bus stops nearby, Portslade station is just a 15-minute walk away, and free on-street parking is available.

  • My teaching approach focuses on helping singers develop healthy vocal production and a solid understanding of technique, tailored to your level and goals. At the same time, I place importance on connecting with the emotions and stylistic demands of the music. I’ve worked with a wide range of singers—from classical performers and West End auditionees to pop and rock vocalists wanting to solidify their technique, and many more! You can read a bit more about my background and approach on the About Page.

  • Yes! I teach students from age 7 upwards – my eldest so far was 82! Many of my adult students are complete beginners, often a little nervous but excited to discover what their voice can do. I also work with singers preparing for conservatoire or musical theatre college auditions, as well as those already performing professionally. Whatever your experience, please do book a consultation to see if lessons are right for you.

  • If it’s your very first lesson and you’re a beginner, simply bring along a song you love or know well—it can be absolutely anything! If you already have specific repertoire in mind, feel free to bring any resources you’d like to work from, such as sheet music, chords, or a backing track.

  • It depends on what you’d like to get out of it! We’ll talk this through in your consultation so each session is tailored to your level and goals. In most lessons, we’ll start with some warm-ups and technical exercises before applying those skills to songs. The aim is to help you sing with both freedom and control, while feeling a real sense of progress along the way.

  • I have experience prepping singers for ABRSM & Trinity Classical Singing, LCM Musical Theatre Exams, and Rockschool Performance Certificates & Graded Exams. I teach from Initial/Grade 1 through to Grade 8/Diploma and I’m always happy to look at a new syllabus if you have another one in mind!

  • How often you have lessons really depends on your goals and availability. If you’re able to practise regularly between sessions, weekly lessons can be a great option. That said, I like to offer flexibility—some students come fortnightly, while others prefer to book lessons as and when it suits them. Using my calendar system, you can easily schedule regular sessions in advance or book on an ad hoc basis.

 ONLINE LESSONS

  • I believe online lessons can be just as effective as in-person sessions. In fact, many students feel more at ease singing from the comfort of their own home. While it may feel a little unusual at first, I truly enjoy teaching online and have students all over the world. Even though we’ve never met in person, I get to know them just as well as my studio students, and their vocal progress has been every bit as rewarding.

  • All you really need for online lessons is a device! A laptop with a good microphone and webcam works best, but if you only have a phone, that’s absolutely fine too. Ideally, having two devices can be helpful—one for the lesson itself and another to play backing tracks or access resources. I’ll happily guide you through the technical setup before your first lesson, but I do recommend double-checking your audio settings beforehand. Technology is amazing, though it can be unpredictable—so logging on a few minutes early helps ensure we can get straight to singing rather than troubleshooting.

  • It’s likely we’ll do a bit of everything. When working on full songs or sections, it’s helpful to use a backing track—this keeps you in tune and in time, while also giving you a feel for the style. For technical exercises or breaking a song down, we’ll usually work a cappella. You’re welcome to sing along with me for the trickier exercises, but since I won’t hear you as well, you’ll also need to try them on your own!

  • Just like with in-person lessons, it’s helpful to come with a song in mind that you’d like to work on. Ideally, you’ll also have a backing track ready—YouTube or Spotify are great places to find one, but I’m happy to help you source it if needed. If you’re working from specific sheet music, please email me a copy in advance so I can have it ready for the lesson too.

  • Right now, I’m using Google Meet for our sessions. You can access it from either your desktop or the app, and no Google account is required. I’ll send you a link before each session, and that’s the one you'll use for all lessons. If you have a different platform you prefer and are already subscribed to, let me know and we can look into using that instead.

  • Everything! Singing Lessons, Vocal Health Assessments and Yoga for Singers are all available online.

YOGA FOR SINGERS

  • It's often a bit of both! In individual lessons we discuss your vocal goals and anything you struggle with or may like to address. We then use elements of yoga to release the body and free the voice. It's likely we will do some stretches, possibly a short flow, some vocal exercises and sing a song. Group classes will cover all of these within a session.

  • Yes! These classes are for anyone and are a great exploration in to beginner yoga that's tailored just for you. Why not try out a group class to get a feel for what the classes cover.

  • Yoga isn't about being flexible, it's about connection. We often get intimidated seeing advanced inversions on Instagram but that's not what yoga is about. Everyone's body is different and we're all flexible in different ways. There will always be modifications to suit all levels and also, yoga will improve your flexibility!

  • There are some fantastic teachers that use these tools and methods. I personally don't use sound bowls and lots of chanting, we explore the voice in an accessible way. I used to get nervous at the thought of even saying 'om' in a yoga class and now I absolutely love a good om! You do have to give some of these techniques a chance and they can feel strange at first. However, your practice is yours and you can do as much as you wish. Chanting can be great to focus the mind though so never say never!

  • I too sing professionally and have performed in operas, musicals and at jazz clubs. You will know your voice better than anyone and you'll know what you need out of the lesson/workshop. Maybe you hold tension somewhere, struggle with vocal stamina, need to improve support to sustain a high belt or need some techniques to keep your breath calm during performances. We'll work together to find the best method for you.

  • These classes can be for anyone! Whether you're an interested yogi or just want to try something new, the first step is to see if you like it and if it benefits you. I promise you, you will be able to do everything in a first class. Why not check out some of my online resources to see if it might be what you're looking for.

  • Yoga teachers often struggle to find their voice. Keeping students calm and focused, leading them confidently and being your authentic self. I'd be happy to work with you to integrate voice work in to the familiarity of yoga.
